Over 1000 community groups, health organisations and businesses are marking the beginning of Women’s Health Week today with events to support women’s health taking place in every state and territory.

The annual health event, led by national not-for-profit Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, aims to increase awareness and education of women’s health topics including pelvic pain, endometriosis and menopause, and encourage community participation in health checks and screenings. This year’s theme, ‘Grow your knowledge’ aims to make women’s health information easier to understand.

Jean Hailes for Women’s Health CEO Dr Sarah White is hopeful that the thousands of community-led events happening across the country will encourage more conversations about women’s health.

“Women’s Health Week provides women with an opportunity to put themselves first and discover the latest news in women’s health.

“It encourages women to come together, talk, and realise that they are not alone,” she says.

Beginning today, Jean Hailes is releasing evidence-based health information on topics including pelvic pain, health checks, hormones and nutrition. The 2023 program features 30 new fact sheets, a health checks chart for women, feature articles, opinion pieces, podcasts, resources for First Nations women, and new research on pelvic pain in Australian women.

“There’s a lot of misinformation and confusing information about women’s health in the community,” White says.

“Providing women and gender-diverse people with access to free, reliable information from a trusted source will support more people to grow their women’s health knowledge and understand what is and isn’t normal.”
